British Wildlife Centre

The British Wildlife Centre, on the A22 between Newchapel and Blindley Heath, is a peaceful, relaxing place to see and learn about Britain's wonderful wildlife - from tiny harvest mice to magnificent red deer.

See over forty different species of animal that live in the wild in Britain, all displayed in natural surroundings.

There is a museum, a picnic area as well as a Gift shop and good wheelchair access.

Hammerwood Park

Off the A264 between East Grinstead and Tunbridge Wells, approximately 3.5 miles from East Grinstead.

Hammerwood House was built in 1792 as a Temple of Apollo by Benjamin Latrobe, the architect who later designed the Capitol and porticoes of the White House in Washington DC.

Stone Rocks

On the road to the Reservoir and Sharpthorne, on the right as you descend the steep hill to the reservoir. A natural rocky outcrop - a favorite of local and not so local climbers. Great views. Natural Attraction.


Weirwood Reservoir

To the South of the town stretching from near Forest Row to the Sharpthorne road lies this beautiful 280 acre lake.

Designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. There is a bird sanctuary and nature reserve at the western end. Coarse fishing, all year round sailing facilities, bird watching. The River Medway continues on from its eastern end. Natural Attraction. Good views of the lake from lookout points on the Sharpthorne road.

Ashdown Forest

Three miles south east of East Grinstead, just south of Forest Row, on land both sides of the A22, once a favorite hunting ground of English Kings.

Stunning views, with delightful walks and trails through woodlands and heathland, ideal for picnics. A Visitor Centre houses exhibitions on the history, flora and fauna of the Forest.

Visitor Centre open daily weekdays 2pm to 5pm. Sat/Sun 11am to 5pm.


Bluebell Railway

Running on 9 miles of track through the lovely Sussex Countryside from Sheffield Park through Horsted Keynes to Kingscote.

This famous vintage steam railway can be joined either at Sheffield Park Station or at Kingscote from East Grinstead via Bus. Sheffield Park Station also contains a museum and collection of old locomotives, restaurant, and shop.

East Grinstead: Leave your car at East Grinstead and join the bus service (no 473) from East Grinstead station or the High Street to Kingscote Station. There are NO PARKING FACILITIES at Kingscote Station.

You can book direct to the railway from London Victoria or stations on the Victoria to East Grinstead line.

Hever Castle

Lies 3 miles southeast of Edenbridge off the B2026.

Childhood home of the ill-fated Anne Boleyn, second wife of Henry VIII. 13th century double-moated castle, with Henry VIII room, Tudor Long Gallery with portraits. Also miniature model house collection. Magnificent grounds include a Tudor village, maze, topiary, and Italian gardens, lake. Restaurants, shops.

Pooh Corner

In Hartfield High Street you will find the famous Gift Shop, built in the 17th Century, where the young Christopher Robin bought his sweets. Now containing the world's largest collection of "Pooh-phernalia" the shop serves as the gateway into Pooh Country where you can find the original Poohsticks Bridge and the other "Enchanted Places". When you start an "Expedition" into Pooh Country collect a free map from Pooh Corner before you go.
