Katy Newell

Katy Newell (married name Katy Norman) was born in Guildford in Surrey. She won a gifted child award of a full grant to attend Italia Conti in London.

By the time she graduated with L.A.M.D.A. Diplomas L.L.A.M. & A.L.A.M.Hons. in 1984 she had worked in numerous Television productions and in West End theatre.

She went on to host a children’s quiz show, worked for a few months on Brookside and to play the enchanting Claire to David Thewliss’ lovestruck Max in two series of the situation comedy Valentine Park which also starred Liz Smith, Ken Jones, Danny Peacock and Caroline Milmoe.

Also among her favourite roles were the characters she played in Lovejoy, Eastenders, Casualty and Little Napoleons.

Katy says that she loves the surprises that can sometimes come from where you least expect them. A one-off role in Hewland International’s Dear Dilema resulted in working for a year in the first series of Sky TV’s award winning Dream Team playing a role created for her by Jane Hewland, of Hewland International – the makers of Dream Team.

Having moved to East Grinstead in 1998 Katy knows that where ever else she visits or works in the rest of the world East Grinstead will be her base and home for the rest of her life. “I teach the “Early Stages” children (4-6 years old) at Chequer Meads Arts Centre for Stage Coach at the weekends, which I thoroughly enjoy. And I love living here in East Grinstead. My husband and I bought a house here a few months ago and we had been looking for the right place for nearly two years.

Katy is passionate about Narconon and Criminon, the international drug and criminal rehabilitation organisations, and has helped to raise more than £5,000 for them by doing 2 sponsored parachute jumps, organising street collections and participating in other charity fund-raising events including several sponsored walks organised by her husband Anthony.
